Corrections and Retractions

Sriwijaya Journal of International Law (SJIL) is committed to maintaining the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of the scholarly record. When errors or ethical concerns are identified in published articles, the journal will take appropriate editorial action in a timely, transparent, and fair manner.

Editorial decisions regarding corrections, retractions, and expressions of concern are guided by the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and are intended to preserve the trustworthiness of the scientific record while ensuring due process for all parties involved.

⚖ Editorial Principles

SJIL is committed to ensuring that any post-publication action is conducted in accordance with the following principles:

  • Accuracy of the published scholarly record.

  • Transparency in editorial decision-making.

  • Fairness to authors, reviewers, and readers.

  • Accountability throughout the investigation process.

  • Due process before any formal editorial action is taken.

Each case is assessed individually based on the available evidence and applicable ethical standards.

✏ Corrections

A Correction (Erratum or Corrigendum) may be published when errors are identified that do not compromise the overall validity, reliability, or conclusions of the article.

Examples include:

✔ Minor Factual Errors

Errors in facts, terminology, or wording that do not affect the scientific or legal conclusions.

✔ Author Information

Amendments to author names, affiliations, contact information, acknowledgements, or funding statements.

✔ Production or Editorial Errors

Mistakes introduced during editing, typesetting, or publication.

✔ Minor Data or Reference Errors

Errors in citations, references, tables, or figures that do not alter the interpretation of the research.

Corrections will be clearly linked to the original article to ensure transparency and maintain an accurate publication record.

⚖ Retractions

A Retraction may be issued when a published article is found to be fundamentally unreliable or when serious violations of publication ethics have occurred.

Retraction may be considered in cases including, but not limited to:

✔ Plagiarism

Substantial plagiarism or unauthorized use of another person's work.

✔ Data Fabrication or Falsification

Manipulation, invention, or intentional alteration of research data or findings.

✔ Unethical Research or Publication Practices

Serious breaches of publication ethics, including undisclosed misconduct or unethical research conduct.

✔ Duplicate or Redundant Publication

Publication of substantially identical work without appropriate disclosure or justification.

✔ Major Errors

Significant errors that invalidate the study's findings, legal analysis, interpretations, or conclusions.

A retracted article will remain part of the scholarly record whenever appropriate but will be clearly identified as Retracted.

Each retraction notice will:

  • Clearly identify the affected article.

  • State the reason for the retraction.

  • Distinguish between author error and research misconduct where possible.

  • Remain permanently linked to the original publication.

⚠ Expressions of Concern

SJIL may publish an Expression of Concern when serious questions have been raised regarding a published article but the available evidence is insufficient to reach a final editorial decision.

This action may be appropriate when:

  • An institutional or independent investigation is ongoing.

  • Allegations of misconduct have not yet been resolved.

  • Available evidence is inconclusive.

  • Immediate notification to readers is considered necessary in the interest of scholarly transparency.

An Expression of Concern serves as a temporary editorial notice and may subsequently be replaced by a correction, retraction, or removal if warranted by the outcome of the investigation.

⚖ Editorial Investigation Process

When concerns regarding a published article are raised, SJIL will undertake a fair and confidential assessment that may include:

  • Reviewing the available evidence.

  • Requesting clarification from the corresponding author.

  • Consulting reviewers, editorial board members, or independent experts where appropriate.

  • Communicating with the authors' affiliated institutions when necessary.

  • Reaching an editorial decision based on established ethical standards and documented evidence.

Throughout the process, the journal will seek to ensure impartiality, confidentiality, and procedural fairness.

⚖ Commitment to Research Integrity

SJIL is dedicated to preserving the integrity of legal scholarship through responsible post-publication oversight. The journal encourages authors, reviewers, editors, and readers to report potential errors or ethical concerns so that appropriate editorial action may be taken.

All corrections, retractions, and expressions of concern will be handled in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the principles of fairness, transparency, accountability, and academic integrity.
