AI and Generative AI Policy

Sriwijaya Journal of International Law (SJIL) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity and originality in scholarly publishing. The journal has a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism and any form of academic misconduct.

All submitted manuscripts are screened using reliable plagiarism detection software before entering the peer-review process. The editorial team carefully evaluates the similarity report to distinguish legitimate similarities from unethical copying.

⚖ Our Commitment

SJIL expects every manuscript to represent the authors' original work and to comply with internationally accepted standards of research and publication ethics.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that:

  • Their work is original.

  • All sources are properly acknowledged.

  • Direct quotations are accurately cited.

  • Permissions have been obtained where required.

  • The manuscript does not infringe the intellectual property rights of others.

⚖ Forms of Plagiarism

The following practices are considered unethical and unacceptable:

✔ Direct Plagiarism

Copying text, ideas, figures, or tables from another source without proper citation or permission.

✔ Paraphrasing without Attribution

Rewriting another author's ideas or expressions without acknowledging the original source.

✔ Self-Plagiarism

Reusing substantial portions of one's own previously published work without appropriate citation or editorial disclosure.

✔ Duplicate or Redundant Publication

Submitting the same or substantially similar manuscript to more than one journal or publishing overlapping research without proper justification.

✔ Misappropriation of Authorship

Presenting another person's work, data, analysis, or intellectual contribution as one's own.

✔ Improper Citation Practices

Using inaccurate, misleading, incomplete, or intentionally omitted citations that obscure the original source of information.

⚖ Similarity Assessment

SJIL evaluates every similarity report qualitatively rather than solely by percentage.

A high similarity index does not automatically constitute plagiarism, and a low similarity index does not automatically guarantee originality.

The editorial assessment considers the nature of overlapping text, including:

  • Properly quoted passages

  • Reference lists and bibliographic entries

  • Titles of legislation and legal instruments

  • Standard legal terminology

  • Established methodological descriptions

  • Commonly used academic expressions

Editorial decisions are therefore based on both the similarity report and professional editorial judgment.

⚖ Editorial Actions

If plagiarism or significant academic misconduct is identified, SJIL may take the following actions depending on the stage of the publication process.

Before Peer Review

  • Immediate rejection of the manuscript.

  • Notification to the corresponding author when appropriate.

During Peer Review

  • Suspension of the review process.

  • Request for clarification or revision from the authors.

  • Rejection if concerns are confirmed.

After Publication

Where plagiarism is identified after publication, SJIL may:

  • Publish a correction.

  • Issue an Expression of Concern.

  • Retract the article.

  • Notify the authors' affiliated institutions or other relevant parties when necessary.

All actions are undertaken in accordance with internationally accepted publication ethics and editorial best practices.

⚖ Authors' Responsibility

By submitting a manuscript to SJIL, authors confirm that:

✔ The manuscript is their original work.

✔ All sources have been appropriately cited.

✔ The manuscript has not been plagiarized or previously published without proper disclosure.

✔ The submission complies with SJIL's ethical standards and publication policies.

Failure to comply with these requirements may result in manuscript rejection, retraction of published articles, and other appropriate editorial actions.

⚖ Commitment to Academic Integrity

SJIL is dedicated to preserving the credibility of legal scholarship through rigorous plagiarism screening, transparent editorial practices, and responsible peer review.

The journal encourages authors, reviewers, and editors to uphold the principles of honesty, originality, transparency, accountability, and academic integrity throughout every stage of the publication process.
